Objective

The on-going objective for Atlantic Airways is to raise awareness about the Faroe islands and its scenic landscapes, which in turn will drive traffic (and sales) to this lesser known Scandinavian gem. Very few people can point to where the islands are located on a map and even fewer would be able to describe what they're like during Christmas time.

What we've done

So we decided to show everyone how the locals celebrate Christmas by flying the video team over there and cutting together this slapstick style video. The video served to educate viewers about the Faroe Islands' unique charm and holiday customs, aiming to increase interest and drive tourism traffic to this lesser-known Scandinavian destination.

Challenge

The primary challenge was overcoming the Faroe Islands' relative obscurity. Few people can pinpoint the islands on a map, and even fewer are familiar with their festive customs and traditions. The campaign needed to create a compelling, memorable narrative that would not only educate but also engage and inspire viewers to consider the Faroe Islands as a travel destination.

Creative Solution

To tackle this, we developed a creative concept centered around showing the world an authentic Faroese Christmas. We opted for a humorous, slapstick-style video to capture the attention of a broad audience and highlight the fun, joyous aspects of the local holiday traditions.

Execution:

  • On-Site Filming: Members of the video and content team flew to the Faroe Islands to film a local family over three days of Christmas celebrations. The footage was shot in a casual, first-person style to convey authenticity and intimacy, making viewers feel like they were part of the experience.
  • Slapstick Style: The video was edited in a playful, light-hearted manner, incorporating humorous moments to keep the content engaging and memorable. This approach was designed to evoke a sense of warmth and humor, differentiating the campaign from typical travel content.
  • Showcasing Traditions: The video captured various aspects of Faroese Christmas traditions—from preparing and enjoying meals to exchanging gifts and spending quality time with loved ones. The aim was to provide a comprehensive view of how locals celebrate the holiday, enhancing the destination's appeal.

Impact

By blending humor with authentic storytelling, the campaign aimed to break through the noise and create a strong emotional connection with the audience. The goal was to increase awareness and curiosity about the Faroe Islands, ultimately driving more traffic to Atlantic Airways and boosting tourism to this hidden Scandinavian gem.

This approach ensured that viewers walked away with a better understanding of the Faroe Islands and a desire to experience its unique Christmas magic themselves.
